Doggie Belly Bomber

So my Uncle Tommy came in from Florida for the weekend and it was chaos, with old friends in and out of the house stopping by to say Hi to him.  There was so much yummy junk food and BBQ, I figured I'd see what I could scavenge from the floor and how much I could get the humans to surrender if I hit them with my very best puppy dog eyes!

Well I must have been successful 'cause the next two days I threw up a bunch of times and now I have a big bellyache.

Mom caught Auntie Janice sneaking me & Phoebe donuts and hot dog.  Boy did Auntie get a mouthful from Mom.  And I don't mean a mouthful of donut or hot dog!  Little Phoebe didn't get sick at all, I swear that dog has an iron belly!  Nothing makes her get sick in the belly.

Most people food is unhealthy for dogs and can make them sick
Come here, my pretties!  Let me give you this donut so you can puke all over Mommy's rug!

Mom says it's nothing but boiled chicken and rice for the next few days.  Apparently, our Veterinarian says that plain boiled chicken and plain rice can help calm a dog's upset tummy.  Not that I'm complaining, I kinda like plain chicken & rice!

Plain boiled chicken and rice can help alleviate a dog's upset tummy

When chicken and rice doesn't work though, it's off to the Vet we go.  Usually that means antibiotics and probably Probiotics, prescribed by the Vet.  Follow the Probiotics link to see how that went.

What do you do when your dog has a belly ache?  If you have any advice or remedies to share, please post them in the comments!  Mom always loves to hear from you!

I'm so sorry to hear you have an upset tummy. I hate when I have an upset tummy, but I don't have anyone to make me chicken and rice and better yet feed me. I get some yucky stuff called Pepto Bismol. Now I was reading on petcarerx.com that doggies can have it, but there are some stipulations. Here's what they say:

WILL PEPTO BISMOL MAKE MY DOG FEEL BETTER?

Just like us, dogs can get diarrhea, indigestion, or an upset stomach. And, just like us, dogs can get relief by taking bismuth subsalicylate. Corrective Suspension is a brand formulated specifically for dogs, but dogs can also take the same off-the-shelf Pepto Bismol that we do. Just be careful to adjust the dose properly for your dog’s weight. I don't know if this is something your mom would want to give you, but give her this web address if she wants to know more, and if the chicken and rice don't help.

Feel better soon, and let us know how you are doing.

you are doing exactly what my Vet said to do once when I accidentally gave Dakota packaged popcorn (I share popcorn with him ALL of the time, but only when I make it the old-fashioned way), and that time I had bought popcorn and didn't read the ingredients.
He told me to give him boiled chicken and white rice, just as you are doing!
Hoping your baby feels better soon!

Oh noes! Sorry to hears about your tummy Isis! You knows, Moms can be such KILLJOYS! geesh. Ma does the same thing to Gpa when he gives me snacks and stuffs! meanie.
Anyhu, the chicken and rice is very good and yummy! The pepto is good too. Ma used to give her doggie small pieces of white bread (her vet said it was okay, butts check with yours to make sure). Also oatmeal and pumpkin can help. I hopes you feel betters soon!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥

Oh no! We give Pierre Pepto-Bismal, but now that we have Dr. Harvey's Power Patties (freeze-dried green tripe) I use that for upset tummies.

Oh no! At least boiled chicken and rice is delicious! I give this to my dogs when they are sick. Scrambled egg sometimes, too!

Mom always uses charcoal tablets for us - its all natural and absorbs that yucky acid that upsets out tummies

Thank you SO much for telling us about Pepto Bismol being safe for dogs, I didn't know that. Great information to have, thanks for stopping by & sharing!

Glad to see there is consensus, thanks! I hope she gets better soon, she's still feeling under the weather. Thanks for stopping by Caren!

We do have some canned pumpkin, I use it for Phoebe but I can give some to Isis as well. Thanks for these suggestions Ruby!

I just read on your blog about the Power Patties being good for upset tummies - it's weird to think of treats as being beneficial for an upset belly. I have one but hadn't tried it yet. Thanks for suggesting the Power Patties M.K.!

Oh yeah, my dogs love eggs! I thought it might be bad for her tummy though, but I can give that a try. Thanks for stopping by and for the egg idea!

I've heard of charcoal tabs but I've never actually seen them anywhere. Can you get those in a pet store? Or do you get them at the Vet or pharmacy? Thanks for sharing that idea!

Hi Cathy,
Just stopping by to see if things are any better. I see that Two French Bulldogs mentioned the boiled chicken mixture. That's a really good option.
I'll be back soon to see how things are going

Mr. N gets pumpkin and ground turkey (he's allergic to chicken) and some slippery elm.

Oh no! Upset tummies are the worst. It sounds like you are receiving great care from your Mommy. If my kitties have upset tummies, they get a little bit of pureed pumpkin or raw goat's milk.

I don't have a dog, so I don't have any advice to give, but I do hope that you feel better soon. Hot dogs are delicious, but we don't think we'd eat donuts if someone offered us one, MOL!
