Consistency Is Key To Your Dog's #PerfectWeight and Healthier Lifestyle

I've talked about overweight pets before, and that being overweight can lead to significant health issues for your dog.  More than 50% of dogs are overweight!  A weight gain of just 5 lbs. on a small dog can have a big impact on your dog's health. 5 lbs. on a small dog is the equivalent of a human gaining more than 30 lbs.!  It's important to address a dog's weight problem before it leads to a more serious health issues.

I know I'm at a healthy weight, are you?

Being at a healthy weight can improve your dog's quality of life and life expectancy!  Creating a routine for weight loss and exercise, and maintaining consistency are the key to your dog's success.  Consistent feeding and exercise are an important part of pet weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.

The Hill's Perfect Weight 10 Week Turnaround Calendar

CONSISTENCY IN BOTH DIET AND EXERCISE IS CRITICAL TO SUCCESS!

** Feed your dog at the same time each day if possible.  Carefully measure out your dog's food at each meal using a measuring cup.  Avoid randomly scooping out food, measure out the proper amount.

Mom always measures our food to ensure we each get the right amount.  My sister is a lot bigger than me so she gets more food than I do.  I'm not so sure I'm OK with that, but I guess Mom knows what's best for us!

When I can't be there to feed my dogs myself, such as when we have to board them, I pre-measure the food for both my dogs and put it into zip lock bags, labeling the bags with each dog's name.  That way I know they'll get the proper amount of food regardless of who feeds them each day.

If you're not sure what the proper amount is to feed your dog, use the Feeding Guidelines on the bag of food.  Ask your Veterinarian if you need further guidance or advice on feeding amounts. It's important to feed your dog the proper amount of food each day!

Use the Science Diet Perfect Weight Daily Feeding Guide provided on the back of each bag of food.  This Daily Feeding guide is from the back of a Toy/Small Breed bag of food.

** Transitioning from your dog's current food to Science Diet Perfect Weight dog food is easy.  Just follow the Helpful Tips guideline on the back of the bag of food to slowly transition your dog to Science Diet Perfect Weight food.

Over the course of a week, transition your dog from her current food to Science Diet Perfect Weight dog food for weight loss.

** Consistency in your dog's exercise routine is important for your dog's weight loss and overall health too. Make exercise a fun activity for your dog and the rest of the family.

Walks are a big part of our daily exercise routine.  We walk together as a family, which helps us all stay healthier and provides great bonding time with the dogs!

A couple of days a week we get more vigorous exercise by hiking in the mountains near home.

** When you can't get outside to exercise your dog don't let exercise lapse, change it up a bit by playing fun games indoors or taking an indoor class such as agility.  Mentally stimulating games can burn energy and count as exercise too.  When we have to stay indoors, I play Hide The Treat (or Toy) with my dogs. That has them running around searching for treats or toys!  If you use treats be conscious of how many you give them and reduce their food accordingly, or use healthy treats that don't add calories like carrots or apples.

Hill's Science Diet Perfect Weight dog food is available in Adult sizes, and a new breakthrough nutrition formula for Small and Toy breed dogs to help smaller dogs achieve a healthy weight and improve quality of life.

Hill's Science Diet Perfect Weight pet weight loss food is available in your Veterinarian's office or at your favorite pet specialty store or web site.

Both my pups put a little weight on after the coldest winter in history . . . . . both are at the top end of ok. Now that spring is here, we are exercising more. We are doing 3 km walks in the morning now and Hailey and I are doing another 2 a couple evenings a week. They are feed at the same time of day every day, food is carefully measured, and treats are balanced. They are healthier than me!

We don't generally go a day without walking either, but since reading your posts lately about weight loss, and my one girl Mika being a tad overweight, I have really been looking into Hills, and love what I read here from you about them!

You guys look great, and this is very good advice! So many of my pals at the park gained weight over the winter, its sad! Mom is afraid to say anything but she wishes they would enter to win the food! Rhette, my kitty brofur, is on the feeding trial, and he loves the food! And, mom is keeping him on schedule and measuring his food carefully.
