6 Reasons To Bike Ride With Your Dog

Last Summer I bought a bike leash and started bike riding with my Husky, Icy.  She's super high energy and I can't always give her the exercise she craves.

Bike riding with my dog burns a lot more of her energy much faster than walking or hiking.  Here's why my dog is my ideal bike riding partner:

** Dogs are Always up for any kind of adventure with US.

** Dogs never make you wait around until they finish running errands or take the kids to a soccer game.  They’re ready when you are!

** Dogs  never argue about which route to take or complain about anything along the way

** You’ll probably tire way before your dog will.  Dogs love to roam & explore new sights and SMELLS!

** They’ll never berate you:  you won’t hear “Well fatty, If you hadn’t eaten that cookie dough ice cream you’d be able to keep up the pace!”

** After a great ride, you won’t have to spring for his $5 iced Mocha Latte, your dog will be happy with a bowl of water and a chew stick!

6 Reasons to bike ride with your dog!

I love when I find a nice wide trail to bike ride on,  like this Biking Friendly Trail in Phoenix AZ.

Bike Riding with my husky is one of our favorite things to do together!

I used to have a neighbor who always took his dog out when he rode his bike. My own dogs can't keep up with a bike.

What a fun way to exercise! I know not all dogs are cut out for the bike leash... glad you're having gray success!

Well, we're cats so we don't go bike riding...but we see humans in our neighborhood that are bike riding with their dogs. The dogs always look like they really enjoy it.

I would love to bike ride with Mr. N but I worry about the bike accidentally falling on him or something.

I have not thought of biking with Cocoa but it sure looks good to tire them out fast!! I think we need to get better with pulling before we do something like that though!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Thanks for hopping with us! That is such a funny post. Icy is a terrific partner but Bentley would not fair so well. He'd just stop and I'd crash my bike. ROFL

This looks so fun! I used to do this with my husky Sadie, but haven't tried with the pups I have now.

I bike ride with HEnrietta but she rides in a basket! Love the idea of this for a high energy, big dog!

A great perspective.... I'm a little nervous about cycling with Finn. How long did it take for the two of you to get the hang of it?

Bike riding offers a great way to exercise your dog as long as road conditions are safe and you have a healthy pet =) Those high-energy dogs need an outlet like this. Thanks for the fun post!

I love going for bike rides with my dad! He goes at just the right speed! :)

Company while exercising! I've always been nervous to try this because my girl likes to wander if she's not leash-attached and I worry about tethering her!

Very fun post and made me laugh ("Well fatty") - thank you!

I love this idea, but I don't think Ruby would be quite up to it. She's not what I would call a high energy dog. LOL. Getting her to take a long walks is sometimes a challenge.

Oh I'm glad there is a special bike leash. I've seen people riding with a regular leash and I know that is just an accident waiting to happen. How fun for all of you!

I've never thought of bike riding with Simba. Seems fun!

This looks like a lot of fun for both of you.

How fun! You are so right about pets making great fitness partners. My cats never make fun of how flabby I am! LOL I'm glad to see the two of you having fun together.

Aw this was awesome!!

It's such great exercise for both of us, but I need to keep it short as it's a big workout even for my Husky!

The bike leash takes a little getting used to but my Husky Icy picked it up in just a few minutes. She quickly realized that she'd get to RUN with it, which Huskies love to do! I think it might be difficult for little Phoebe though so I don't use it with her.

It's great fun for most dogs, but cats - not so much!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I've heard it can be used with smaller dogs too but I have my doubts. I only use it with my Husky, not my little dog Phoebe. I'd like to get a basket for her though so she can join us on our rides!

Thanks Julie! It definitely burns a lot of energy which is great for my Husky. It's so much fun too.

Thanks for hosting the hop! I would agree that Bentley wouldn't be the best candidate for bike riding, especially using a bike leash. He's too low to the ground.

I think it's a great activity for a Husky, we love it!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

That must be such fun for Henrietta! I'd love to get a basket for little Phoebe to join us for rides too.

It only took a few minutes for Icy to get used to the bike leash. Once she realized she'd be able to Run with this thing she loved it! But definitely take the time to slowly get your dog used to using a bike leash. With or without a bike leash take it slow getting your dog used to it and be SAFE!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I'd imagine you need to get your balance in good shape before adding your dog to the mix so you're smart not to try it. We must all know our limits!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

Oh definitely, safety is my number one concern. I pay close attention to make sure my dog is staying safe. There's not that many places I feel are conducive to bike riding with my dog, I don't do it in the street, I don't feel it's safe enough.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I'm so glad your Dad bikes with you, it's so much fun!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I would definitely take it very slow and see if it will work for your dog. It's probably not for every dog, each one is different.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I definitely think it's good for more energetic dogs. If Ruby doesn't love long walks or hiking it's probably not for her.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

I'm so glad I found the bike leash, it made all the difference! I tried it with a regular leash and it didn't work out well at all. I love the bike leash.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

It's so much fun, although it might be difficult with a small dog like Simba. He'd probably be better off riding in a basket.

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them said...

It's a blast! We love it.

I love exercising with my dogs, it makes it seem less like exercise and more like fun!

Thanks Jenna, I'm so glad you liked it! Your Huskies would probably love bike riding, although you'd need a lot of bikes, BOL!
